Daisi Daniels is the Under 12 Kombi British Champion 2014

Date published: 23 April 2014

It's the end of the winter session for Rochdale skier Daisi Daniels and her last few races in the under 12 age category - as she moves up to the under 14s age group at the end of the week - and Daisi ended in style taking first place in the the under 12 Kombi British Champion 2014.

Arriving in France for the British Alpine Championships & Scottish Alpine Championships 2014, her first race this week was the Scottish Alpine Championships Giant Slalom Race held in Crocherval France, on Sunday 6 April, followed by the Children's Skiplex British Alpine Championships in Meribel, France.

The sun was blazing down on the not so firm snow, not ideal conditions but it is the end of the session.

Daisi was number five out of the start gate and after a good first run she was in third place by 0.11 seconds. She had everything to go for as it was the fastest time of two runs to count. Her second run was a little quicker and she managed to pull back 0.49 to take the silver medal.

Tuesday 8 April was the first day of under 12s British Alpine Championships 2014 held in Mottaret, Meribel, France.

There was an early start for the giant slalom event and with rain on the forecast the races got under way - fastest run of two runs to win.

Daisi was bib 25 and put in two good solid runs down the course, which put her in a respectable third place, and with only 00.40 of a second between first and third her coach, Alex Ready of Team Evolution, was pleased. It also gave Daisi qualification to race on the Under 14s course - on the Thursday 10 April - a course she will be ski racing next year in the under 14s age category.

Wednesday 9 April saw Daisi compete in the kombi event. This event can include a selection of rollers, stubbies, turns and giant slalom gates, a combination of different skills that tests the racers ability. Every racer has two runs with the fastest run to win. Daisi, 28th out of the gate, skied an impressive 41.10 in her first run and into first place. Her second run was equally impressive with an even faster time of 41.07 keeping her in the lead by 00.70 and bringing home the under 12 Kombi British Champion 2014 title.

The Kombi race was sponsored by Faction and each winner in each age group was awarded a pair of Faction Twin tip skis.

Daisi is now back in the UK to continue her training at her home slope, Chill Factore Manchester, where Daisi is a sponsored athlete. It's also back to Beech House School, Rochdale, where Daisi has been a pupil for the past six years, to catch up with her school friends.

Daisi said: "I would like to thank Salomon GB Ski Supplies, Chill Factore Manchester, Beech House School and Team Evolution."
