Halifax 42 - 24 Rochdale Hornets

Date published: 22 June 2014

A determined performance from Hornets, and Paul Crook crashing through the 1,000 point mark, still wasn't enough to end the win drought as Hornets went down to a resolute Halifax side.

Hornets started well enough but with no points to show for their early pressure Halifax hit with a counter attack spanning the full length of the field for a converted try.

Hornets pressed again and got suckered in a similar fashion for the second score as again Halifax countered with a full length of the field break to double their lead.

Halifax scored again from distance to lead 14 -0 before Hornets finally got off the mark; Llewellyn showing power and commitment to go over the line. Crook added the extras.

Halifax 16 - 6 Rochdale Hornets

Hornets started the second half well and this time made it count as good tight inter passing put Lewis Sheridan in to dive over the line. Crook missed his conversion attempt.

Danny Davis thought he had scored for Hornets but was denied when the referee called a forward pass.

Hornets were looking good and certainly a match for Halifax when all their early graft was undone as Halifax made the most of possession from a penalty to crash over.

Halifax added another converted try to take their lead 16 points but Hornets refused to give up and hit back through Paul Crook with a try and conversion that took his career total through the 1,000 point mark.

Halifax countered again with some powerful running to extend their lead and at this stage, despite Hornets best efforts, it was clear the result was going to be a win for Halifax and when they made the most of another penalty to score a further converted try it really was game over.

However, this Hornets side doesn't lie down even in the face of defeat and try saving tackles from Davies and English kept the now rampant Halifax attack in check but a lucky bounce let Halifax in for one more try before the hooter.

The Hornets players left the field to a deserved standing ovation from the travelling faithful because whilst the result may not have gone their way, there can be no doubting their effort and commitment.
