Ruth Walczak from Rochdale has been selected to be part of the Great British rowing squad during the upcoming World Championships.
Ruth, who won a bronze medal in the lightweight single scull at the World Championships last year, will compete at the World Champions in the lightweight women’s quadruple scull alongside Ellie Piggott, Brianna Stubbs and Charlotte Taylor.
There is a lot of buzz surrounding this group of lightweight women, particularly after they finished second in the ‘B’ final at the World Cup in Lucerne when they competed in the open weight category against rowers with an average weight advantage of over two stone.
Performance Director Sir David Tanner said: “I’m proud of our rowers and our coaches for producing some cracking results at the World Cups. Now what matters is the World Championships and I feel we have a good platform for that”.
