Lee Hemmings approaches the end of the 6-lap bike leg
On Sunday 17 August, Rochdale Triathlon Club members took on the Salford Triathlon, based around Salford Quays, in both the Olympic and Sprint distances with over 1,000 competitors.
Previously being an international/commonwealth venue, competition was fierce. The weather was wet and windy, which demanded concentration from competitors during the 1,500m (or 750m) open water swim, 40km (or 20km) bike leg around Salford Quays and Trafford Park, and the 10km (or 5km) waterfront run around the Quays.
For some members, this was their first taste of Olympic distance triathlon. Ray Sultan said “It was great. It was so windy on the bike; I struggled to get some real pace going. I’m going to work on that over the winter. I was happy with my run though. “
Nick Allen topped the list from the club with a 19th position overall (2:21:04).
All athletes completed the course without incident.
