Norden overcome Walsden to book a place in LCB Knockout final
Date published: 01 September 2014
Norden will meet Ormskirk in the final of the LCB Knockout following their win over Walsden at Stag Park on Saturday.
The actual match was washed out with Walsden on 27 for one chasing a target of 152.
The umpires decided the pitch was unfit for further play and it went to a bowl out.
Hashum Malik, second on for Norden, scored a hit, and with all 22 players having had a go he was the only one to have rattled the stumps.
Norden’s earlier innings had been a strange one, with only two players and Mr Extras reaching double figures.
Opening bat Simon Harman was eighth out with 92 to his name and 151 on the board. Simon North had scored 11, Daniel Salpietro nine, and Ollie Makin eight as Walsden used seven bowlers.
Nick Barker and Umesh Karunaratne both finished with two for 11, and Josh Gale picked up two for 35, but the pick of the bowlers was James Shackleton whose opening burst of nine overs saw him take one for 28 and cause no end of problems for the batsmen.
With the storm clouds gathering and rain looking imminent the odds were loaded in favour of Walsden providing 10 overs of their innings were bowled.
Their target would have been dramatically reduced, and it was no doub t with this in mind that James Rawlinson went after the bowling.
He was caught by Hashum Malik for 18, and only 6.3 overs had been delivered when the rain came.
The rain did stop, but the umpires decided it was not fit for further play, despite protestations from Walsden.
