Norden Seconds win title by defeating Unsworth

Date published: 08 September 2014

Norden second team dismissed Unsworth seconds for 148.

Unsworth were going well at one stage on 105 for three, but the introduction of Paul Morrell to the attack saw wickets tumbling with the help of a series of catches.

It did look as though Norden might run out of overs and have to wait a little longer to win the title, but with four balls left of the visitors’ innings Hetherington popped the ball up, Asif Saeed took the catch, and Norden had a chance of taking the five points they needed.

The reply didn’t go exactly to plan as both Saeed and Dean Lord went cheaply.

Greg Tattersall was out for 11 to make it 32 for three, but 14-year-old Rehan Udwadia and 16-year-old Dom Humphreys then featured in a brilliant partnership.

They put on 99 runs before Humphreys fell to a catch on 39. Udwadia looked set for a half century, but on 46 he gave a return catch to the bowler.

Adam Ahmed and Ross Collin went quickly, and it was left to seasoned campaigner Blair Patterson to hit the winning run with the champagne corks already popping.
