Rochdale 0 - 3 Oldham Athletic

Date published: 29 November 2014

Rochdale lost heavily at home in the local derby against Oldham. A first half goal from Johnson and two second half goals, from Forte and Johnson respectively enough to give Oldham the three points. Without top scorer Matty Done, after his appeal to overturn his red card against Doncaster failed, Rochdale lacked the fire power to trouble a well drilled Oldham defence.

Oldham started the game better than Rochdale but Dale had the balance of possession without threatening Kenny in the Oldham goal.

Oldham opened the scoring when Johnson hit a shot from inside the penalty area and found the back of the net.

The rest of the half was fairly even with both sides having opportunities.

Dieng went close for Oldham but his shot was just wide.

Kelly did better with a shot on target but it was easily saved by Logan in the Dale goal.

Jamie Allen tried from just outside the box but his shot went wide.

The second half began as the first, with Oldham quick out of the traps and Logan had to save a Johnson shot minutes after the re-start.

Oldham went close to doubling their lead when Kelly's speculative punt from outside the box went close.

Dale's best chance of the half came when Kenny in the Oldham goal had to save smartly from a Noble-Lazarus long range effort.

Midway through the second half Oldham doubled their lead; Jack O'Connell fouled Danny Philliskirk in the penalty box and Jonathan Forte made no mistake from the penalty spot.

With ten minutes left to play, Daniel Johnson scored his second and made it three for Oldham with a left-footed shot from inside the penalty area beating Logan to the high centre of the goal.

Dale had two chances in injury time; Lund went close with a header and Bastien Hery put a direct free kick high.

The result, which in truth flattered Oldham, lifts Oldham above Rochdale and into the play-off places whilst Rochdale drop to eighth.
