Muavia Nasim crowned Regional North West Champion

Date published: 08 March 2015

Queensway ABC boxer Muavia Nasim was crowned the Regional North West Champion at the Youth Championships in Salford last week after defeating Brendan Collins.

Going into the fight, Nasim was the underdog with Collins being last year’s champion and also the North West belt holder.

With Collins record of 13 fights and 10 wins it was a hard decision for Queensway head coach David Hodkinson to put Nasim up against him.

Speaking about the decision, Hodkinson said: “It wasn't until three days before the fight that I found out the young man’s record and, on top of that, he was recently picked for an England training camp so it was a big decision to make. I eventually made the decision and took the fight as I thought it was a risk worth taking.”

Before Round one, Hodkinson told Nasim to do what he does best - draw Collins in and counter his shots and he did that perfectly throughout the round.

Round two went pretty much the same with Collins getting frustrated and unable to master Nasim’s style whilst taking some big shots.

In round three, the Queensway boxer mixed it up a little, changing stances and landing some clean shots.

Nasim was crowned champion following a unanimous decision.
