Mohammed Zubair wins first time out

Date published: 21 April 2015

Mohammed Zubair, of Queensway ABC, was in action against Callum Lenihan from Chadderton Boxing Club at Rochdale Town Hall on the Littleborough ABC show on Friday (17 April).

This was Zubair's first fight so it was nerves all round for both the boxer and his coaches.

The first round was a case of both boxers getting to grips with each other with not many scoring shots going in, probably down to first fight nerves.

The second started pretty much the same until Zubair landed his jab nicely. Still struggling to find the distance with the back hand he worked on angles and boxed clever to take the round.

The the third round Zubair finally found his range and landed a few heavy left hands which slowed Lenihan down a little and allowed Zubair to take control. Pushing forward, keeping up the pressure proved to much for Lenihan and Zubair finished strong to take the fight.

Coaches John Finnery and David Hodkinson said: "Knowing Zubair and his nerves we thought going into the fight he would have been far worse but the nerves didn't really show until about an hour before the fight.

"He boxed exactly to instruction and didn't slip say from the advice given to him in the corner.

"For his first time out we are very proud."
