Littleborough Boxing's annual glitz and glamour show

Date published: 24 April 2015

Littleborough Boxing's annual glitz and glamour show returned to Rochdale Town Hall in what became a superb night of entertainment, all the bouts matched with 12 closely matched fights.

Jack Ashworth and Curtis Fitzsimmonds produced quality displays of pugilism for the home the club in the first half of the show.

During the interval a raffle raised over a £1000 for the volunteer ran club, the show so far was going well for the club and so after the interval it saw the boxing hotting up a little also.

Second part of the show saw Matthew Bailey put on an exhibition of head movement and a display of footwork as he dazzled the crowd with his reflexes.

In his last fight for Littleborough Boxing, cruiserweight James Moores put heart andsoul into a bout that saw both boxers htting hard in a real 'nail biter'.

The penultimate bout saw Littleborough Boxing shining star Thomas Connors fight against the excellent Tom Kidd from Sharpstyle. The bout had been eagerly awaited as they are arguably two of the best in the north-west for there age and weight category. From start to finish the bout was a non-stop battle of wits with both boxing at a high tempo and using great shot variation, pressing and using the ring in a tactical manner. Connors won but both boxers are guaranteed to be meeting in championships for years to come.

The last bout featured Littleborough's ever popular Robert Murphy, aka Dynamite Murphy. Murphy pressed his opponent from the off and forced a standing count for his opponent in the second round. The third round saw his opponent lucky to stay on his feet as the bell saved him just as the outcome was looking inevitable.

Littleborough Boxing Coach Mark Oldham said: "All the boxers are at different stages of development, some having there first bout for the club some are in double figures, so all deserve credit getting up there and giving it a real go.

"As a club we have had a great year with getting a new building in which we own, having local businessmen support our cause and more than doubling our carded boxers number.

"There was plenty to work on from what I saw from the boxers tonight so its back in training Monday and right those wrongs.

"Thanks to everyone who came to the show in making it a night to remember."

Local businesses supported the event hosting tables in a show of support for the local club.
