Eric Howarth of Rochdale is looking forward to seeing Dale for free this coming season after winning back his season ticket money. The draw took place on Monday morning following Saturday’s closing date and Eric’s name was first out of the drum.
The 85-year-old met with Dale's Chief Executive Colin Garlick to receive his cheque at Spotland on Monday afternoon.
"I got a call this morning to say I'd won my season ticket money back and I'm very pleased," said Eric. “I have been a season ticket holder for over 20 years and to be honest I knew about the draw but never expected to win it.“
Eric is a familiar face at Spotland, he’s been supporting Rochdale since he was 12-years-old.
Eric said: “I was just a youngster when I watched my first game and barring my National Service I have been here every season.
"The stadium has changed a lot since then but I always liked the Sandy Lane End. These days I prefer to sit down so I have a seat behind the goals in the Pearl Street Stand; it can be a little difficult to see if the ball has crossed the line at the other end sometimes."
The stadium isn't the only change Eric has seen over the years - managers have come and gone, however, he believes Keith Hill ranks as one of the best.
He added: "We have enjoyed some very good seasons and some very enjoyable games under Keith Hill. He's done a good job with younger players and it's nice to see them coming through. We had a good season last time and I'm looking forward to the new one.“
