Simon North plays a captain’s innings as Norden beat Littleborough

Simon North played a captain’s innings as Norden beat Littleborough in a match reduced to 27 overs per side at Stag Park on Saturday.

Norden took first knock, and Simon Harman looked in good nick as he smacked three boundaries, but with thosed 12 runs to his name and 13 on the board he was out to a catch by Clinton Perren which gave Michael Burns the first of his six wickets.

Burns then claimed Gowers who was caught behind by Jamie Roche, and home pro Daniel Salpietro was out to a very good low catch by Callum Roche with 73 on the board.

North continued to push the score along, but his partnership with Dom Humphreys was broken when the latter went for a quick single and was run out.

North went for 58 when he skied a Matthew Hodson delivery to be caught by Burns, and the tail-end folded as batsmen went for quick runs with the overs running down.

Stags were all out for 140, and Boro’s start in reply was nothing short of a disaster.
Hulme was leg before to Chris Hartley, Chris Schofield was clean bowled by Martin Smith, and Matthew Taylor was caught by Steve Wild to make it 7-3.

Perren held one end, but wickets continued to fall at the other end. Hartley clipped the top of the stumps to dismiss Zimmy Khan, and did it again next ball to see off Tom Pye.

Hartley gained another wicket when Burns was caught by Malik, and Boro were 31 for six.
Phil Docker took a good catch which spelt the end for Jamie Roche and Callum Roche was caught behind.

Norden looked set for a five-pointer, but Perren stood firm and Phil Deakin played a late cameo which brought him 19 runs.

When the overs ran out Boro were on 93 for eight and still 12 runs short of a consolation point.
