Kemm and Hughes make light work of Oldham

Date published: 19 August 2015

Ernest Kemm took a five wicket haul as Middleton convincingly beat strugglers Oldham on Saturday. They took five points at Pollards to remain in second place and continuing to fight for promotion.

Having lost the toss Middleton were put in and found themselves in trouble early as Kemm was bowled to leave the score on 13-1.

Walker, however, began to grind out runs on a damp wicket.

Jones came in at three but was caught on 21.

Tierney then came to the crease and looked to be supporting Walker well, before sub professional Faisal Zeeshan claimed his second wicket as Tierney was given out lbw.

After a middle order collapse, Walker’s innings came to an end three short of his half century.

Foden then provided a fight back making a gutsy 27 and similarly Rutter took the Middleton innings to the last over as Middleton were all out for 155 on a difficult wicket to score runs on.

Kemm and Hughes then made short work of bowling Oldham out as five batsmen failed to score.

The opening bowlers destroyed Oldham’s top order as the hosts were reduced to 1-3 and began to attack the middle order as Oldham failed to provide any resistance.

Acombination of embarrassing shot selection and quality bowling ensured a 115 run victory for Middleton as Oldham were bowled out for 40.
