Date published: 22 August 2015

David W Greenhalgh, 15, from Bamford has won the under 21s Lancashire League for .22 rifle shooting, as well as taking home another four trophies at the Appleton Open.

David, who has been involved with rifle shooting for 18 months, won trophies for the junior league, the highest shoot for 100m, his division overall and the Henderson Cup for Bury best improved.

His dad, David L Greenhalgh said: “We are very proud of him, absolutely. He has done very well, so we are very proud of him.”

David is a member of Bury Shooting Club and got involved with the club after going along with some friends.

Mr Greenhalgh added: “His friends were going along and they asked him to go and it went form there really. It was something he liked and it is now something that he loves.”

David is now hoping to take the sport as far as he can and, maybe one day, represent Rochdale at the Olympics.

“It is certainly his intention to take it as far as he can and to continue for as long as he can. Obviously he would love to go to the Olympics one day,” added Mr Greenhalgh.
