Springfield Seconds 0 - 6 Rochdale Seconds

Date published: 24 November 2015

Rochdale Hockey Club sealed victory against Springfield in the eagerly awaited top of the table clash between two teams that up until now only separated by goal difference.

Rochdale knew they were in for a tough game and travelled with the strongest squad possible.

Scott Hempsall-Jones scored an early goal for Rochdale. This set the tone for the rest of the game with Springfield soon realising this was not going to be their day.

By half time Rochdale were 4-0 up and looked to have sealed both the victory and the top of the division.

For anything to change in the second half Springfield needed to get off to a quick start and a series of short corners came their way. Unfortunately for them, Jimmy Deacy in the Rochdale goal made a magnificent string of saves to keep them at bay and keep another clean sheet.

Two more goals in the second half finished everything off and despite Hempsall-Jones scoring four, it was Jimmy Deacy's display that won the man-of-the-match award.

Skipper Karl Wynn commented: "We knew this would one of the toughest games we would face all season. So to come away not only with all three points, but to have put six past them, is a testament to the hard work the guys have put in all year on the training ground."
