Focus on Milnrow and Newhey: PCSO Alan Shaw

Date published: 08 December 2010

Alan Shaw, 43, has been a PCSO in Milnrow and Newhey for over four years.

Mr Shaw joined the police because he wanted to make a difference in the community. Before joining the police Mr Shaw worked in community fire safety.

Mr Shaw said: “The role I do now as a PCSO was a role that I chose to do as it gives me the opportunity to work with a specific community and hopefully make an impact that will enrich that community.”

Mr Shaw explained what he likes most about his job: “The job is different everyday and I get to meet some interesting people and feel that I do achieve some improvements.”

For Mr Shaw there is one time that really stands out as “memorable,” he said: “I received a Divisional Commanders Award for actions above and beyond what was expected, by removing a male from a building where the kitchen was on fire.”

It seems working in the community is what Mr Shaw loves best, when asked if he wants to move up the police force ladder, he said: “I hope to stay as a PCSO I really enjoy working with the community.”

To conclude Mr Shaw told Rochdale Online what he likes most about Milnrow and Newhey.

He said: “The area is beautiful but the most favourite is the interesting people in the area and how friendly they are to me.”
