Assistive technology helping people living with dementia stay independent longer
Technology is used in many ways today to help us organise ourselves better and make our lives run more smoothly. In Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Awareness Week, people living with dementia, their carers and family members can find out how assistive technology can enhance their lives and enable people to live independently longer by dropping into the Alzheimer’s Society Memory Wellbeing Café Roadshow, at the Pioneer’s Museum on Toad Lane in Rochdale on Thursday, May 23 between 11am - 2pm.
People visiting the Assistive Technology Roadshow will be able to see and interact with a range of devices demonstrated by staff from Rochdale MBC’s Home Improvement Agency (HIA). As well as providing the technology, HIA staff will also be supplying the knowhow and will be on hand to answer people’s questions.
After exploring the technology and finding out how it can be used to help meet the needs of people living with dementia, staff and volunteers from Rochdale Pioneer’s Museum will be available to guide people on a journey into the past to see how an idea, which gave birth to the co-operative movement, aimed to meet the needs of a great many people back then.
