Rochdale AFC Business Club at Hollingworth Academy

Date published: 21 July 2017

Over 40 business delegates attended the latest Rochdale AFC Business Club event, which for the first time was taken ‘on the road’ and held at Hollingworth Academy.

Presentations were delivered by Darren Randle, Head of Hollingworth Academy, Business & Enterprise, teacher Cate Calveley on the school’s 'The Edge' programme, Russ Green, chief executive of Rochdale AFC and MP for Rochdale Tony Llloyd.

Delegates also enjoyed a two-course lunch cooked and served by year eight pupils.

Hollingworth Academy ran a competition named ‘Come Dine With Me’ with all year eight pupils. The pupils worked in groups of three to create a menu and dining experience for the business delegates.

Each group presented to their class and the winner from each class had to present their ideas to a judging panel. The judges chose the winning team and menu of roasted garlic and lemon chicken followed by chocolate brownie. The runners pp performed to the delegates with a song and magic tricks.

David Bottomley, Director of Rochdale AFC, said: “It was fantastic to take our Business Club on the road and the facilities and students at Hollingworth Academy were magnificent.

"I would like to thank all of our speakers and Hollingworth Academy for hosting the event, but most importantly to the students for their incredible hospitality.”

Cate Calveley, Head of Business & Enterprise at Hollingworth Academy, said: “We were thrilled to host RAFC’s quarterly Business Club event. It has been a great experience from both Hollingworth staff and students.

“It was extremely valuable for the pupils to be involved in the planning and execution of a 'real life' event and to collaborate with so many of our local businesses.

“We are looking forward to working with various individuals, organisations and charities in future partnerships and thank everyone at RAFC for giving Hollingworth this opportunity.”

The next Rochdale AFC Business Club event will be held on Tuesday 17 October, 6pm onwards at the Crown Oil Arena prior to the Northampton Town fixture.
