First female director appointed at Tenon Rochdale

Date published: 19 August 2008

The Rochdale office of entrepreneurial advisers Tenon has appointed its first female director, with the promotion of Vanessa Hamer.

Vanessa has worked in accountancy for 13 years, having joined the Bacup and Rochdale practice of BDO Stoy Hayward as a trainee accountant in 1995. The Rochdale office of the firm was acquired by Tenon in 2004.

Vanessa has worked her way up through the company hierarchy, joining the tax team in 1999 and becoming an associate director in 2005.

Commenting on her promotion, Vanessa said: “Having worked in the tax department of the firm for so many years, I’m delighted to be promoted to director. I look forward to working with the new management team in Rochdale as the firm continues to grow.

“The complexity of the UK tax system means that specialist tax advice is increasingly required by both businesses and individuals. Tenon is lucky to have people in place with the specialist knowledge required to meet Rochdale’s demand for quality tax services.”

Vanessa’s promotion follows the appointment of Chris Hill as Tenon Managing Director in Rochdale, after long standing MD David Brierley stepped down at the beginning of July. Chris Hill commented: “Vanessa has been an integral part of the team for many years, and climbing up through the ranks of the firm from trainee level to director epitomises the values of this Rochdale office.

“Her promotion to director was an obvious step, and an easy decision for our team to make. And, of course, it was nice to make a little bit of history for our Rochdale office along the way."
