BES celebrates 20th anniversary with £20,000 donation to Springhill Hospice

Rochdale business BES has celebrated its 20th anniversary by making a £20,000 donation to charity Springhill Hospice in recognition of the work it carries out for the borough’s community, all free of charge.

The £20,000 contribution follows a longstanding relationship between both the hospice and BES. Over the past four years, BES has taken part in numerous charitable events to help raise money to support the hospice as it aims to provide the highest standard of care for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

In 2018, 40 BES employees rallied together to climb 950-metre high Helvellyn, a mountain in the Lake District. In 2019, BES won a corporate challenge to raise the most money for the hospice by participating in a series of health and wellbeing related activities alongside other Rochdale businesses.

In August this year, members of the BES team took part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, which saw people attempt to take on Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours. In addition to this, BES is part of the hospice’s Business Buddies scheme.

These activities have raised a total of £20,000, with BES’ most recent offering matching that amount, taking the grand total to £40,000. The sum of £20,000 funds a Springhill Hospice nurse to provide medical, practical and emotional support for 41 days.

BES Chief Operating Officer Paul Marsh said: “We’re delighted to make this £20,000 contribution to Springhill Hospice because the work they do makes a huge positive impact on peoples’ lives when they need it the most. We have enjoyed cultivating a strong partnership with the hospice in recent years and our latest donation seemed a fitting way to consolidate that. We look forward to many more years of collaboration so that we can continue to support the wider Rochdale community.”

Springhill Hospice CEO Sam Wells and chair of trustees Lesley Mort added: "We were both overwhelmed and incredibly grateful to receive such a generous donation from BES. We enjoy a trusted and loyal partnership with this business and they have helped us to achieve our goals, time after time. This is the toughest year in recent history for Springhill so this incredible donation of £20,000 means so much. The money will enable us to care for so many people in the borough when they need us most."

BES is an expert in the design and construction of specialist facilities for the discovery, development and manufacture of life changing medicines and technologies within the pharmaceutical, biotech, healthcare and advanced manufacturing sectors.
