Heywood's Lily May Boutique reopens in new home

Date published: 23 November 2022

Heywood’s Lily May Boutique has re-opened after finding a new home at 20 Market Place.

The ladies clothing boutique had previously been located on Manchester Street, but closed when the lease expired and with the upstairs business wanting to expand.

The business will now be run by Carolyn ‘Caz’ Beaumont, with founder Wendy Moore - who worked for the Burton group in the 80s - “retiring a bit.”

A grand re-opening and ribbon cutting by friend and “loyal customer” Julie Dunbar had been due to take place on Friday 11 November, but due to unforeseen circumstances, took place the following day.

Caz said: “We waited and waited but no sign of Julie, so we had to just open the doors to all our customers but were worried what had happened to her. Julie appeared the following day, so we held another opening and cutting of the ribbon on the Saturday.”

“Good job we had some fizz left!” Wendy joked.

Caz continued: “We didn’t want to make it so final after building up such a fantastic business with the support of our customers and friends.

“Thanks to the help of our friends and family, we managed to get the shop ready for action. Lily May is a hub for happiness for people to look around at ease, try on, have a brew and a chat – and a humbug mint from the bowl, if they’re lucky!”

Lily May Boutique was formed in 2015 by Wendy and her daughter-in-law, Jemma Hopkinson and named after both their grandmothers.

Wendy’s ‘dear friend’, Caz joined the business in 2017 after Jemma left to pursue a career in beauty.
