North West Restaurant of the Year 2022 The Milnrow Balti shortlisted for 2023 ARTA award

Date published: 29 August 2023

The Milnrow Balti – last year’s North West Restaurant of the Year – will be looking to defend its title after being shortlisted for the accolade again this year.

The multi-award-winning Dale Street restaurant has been named one of 10 restaurants in the north west nominated for Regional Restaurant of the Year at the 2023 Asian Restaurants and Takeaway Awards (ARTA), after winning the title last year.

This year, The Milnrow Balti – which counts Greater Manchester Restaurant of the Year (National Curry Awards 2022), Best Indian Restaurant and Best Chef (Euro Asia Curry Awards 2021) and Best Restaurant (Curry Life Awards 2019) amongst its accolades – is facing competition from restaurants in Bolton, Bury, Liverpool, Ramsbottom, Droylsden, Croston, Blackpool and Wallasey.

The restaurant also celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, having been established in 1998.

The coveted Asian Restaurants and Takeaway Awards are in recognition of the UK’s best South Asian cuisine across a series of prestigious regional and national categories with the winners announced at a glittering celebrity red-carpet event in London Hilton Park Lane on 8 October.

Customers of ChefOnline, an online platform to order food and book tables on the go and partner of ARTA, were invited to nominate their favourite restaurants and takeaways for the awards before an esteemed panel of judges selected the finalists.

The process concludes at the grand finale and gala evening, where the ultimate winner is announced and honoured with prestigious awards in various categories.

Speaking about the Asian Restaurant & Takeaway Awards 2023, Mohammed Munim, Founder Member and CEO of ARTA, said: “Asian restaurants have made a significant contribution to the UK economy, both historically and in recent times.

“They deserve recognition and rewards for their efforts. These restaurants have not only created thousands of jobs but have also boosted local economies through their presence, especially post-Brexit.

“To provide staunch support to the thriving Asian restaurants in Britain, ARTA acknowledges and highlights their importance in the culinary landscape. Each nominee is a worthy winner, and we look forward to celebrating with them all at the award ceremony on 8 October.”

Mohammed Rahman, owner of The Milnrow Balti, has been contacted for comment.
