Award-winning beauty salon The Retreat celebrates 30th anniversary

Date published: 03 October 2023

The Retreat, an established and award-winning beauty salon in Rochdale, celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special celebratory VIP event on 24 September.

Distinguished guests were treated on arrival to a gift bag filled with goodies from the salon’s favourite brands, and were welcomed by a prosecco tower, doughnut stand and canapés, plus a multi-tiered white and gold cake by Brown's.

Guests also enjoyed entertainment by local singer and musician Edward Jamil, and cocktails from an on-site mixologist, and had the chance to pick up a few presents before Christmas, such as cashmere scarves, handbags, jewellery accessories, and beauty gifts.

The Retreat was originally established on Baillie Street as ‘Nails and Things’ in 1993 by Laura Prime. In 2009, current owner Emma Fitton joined the business as a graduate. Its day spa facilities were launched, and ‘Nails and Things’ became rebranded as The Retreat.

Emma bought the business in 2014, and today The Retreat works alongside local colleges providing work experience opportunities to aspiring beauty professionals and also provides up to two apprenticeships each year.

The Retreat has survived two recessions, and a global pandemic with lockdowns and restrictions, which almost saw it close.

Emma said: “Through the wonderful clients’ support and return customers, The Retreat managed to get back on its feet with almost immediate effect.

“Since reopening after lockdown, we have worked hard to continue to provide the same excellent client care and high-quality services.

“Thanks to the dedicated staff that have worked for The Retreat and, of course to our loyal clients who have continued to choose The Retreat for their beauty needs. Some of our customers have been coming since the day we opened in 1993, and that loyalty isn’t something we take for granted.

“We appreciate you all and feel very lucky to have such amazing clients.

“Thank you to the current Retreat team who are amazing, highly skilled, professional and so creative with an eye for perfection, and to those who have been part of The Retreat team over the 30 years: you have all been an essential part of the business and have given a piece of your creativity that can be passed on for the future of The Retreat.”

She added: “We managed to raise £350 for The Brain Tumour Charity In memory of my dad; thank you to the generosity of local business including a bouquet from The Bloom Room, Middleton, and vouchers from Chantilly.”
