The Milnrow Balti named as the best in the country at Britain’s top Asian Restaurant & Takeaway Awards

Date published: 10 October 2023

The Milnrow Balti has not only been crowned the North West Restaurant of the Year at the largest celebration of Britain’s vibrant Asian restaurants and takeaway industry but also beat all the other regional winners to be named Champion of Champions.

Based on Dale Street in Milnrow, the local restaurant and takeaway fought off tough competition to be crowned the best in the country at the Asian Restaurant & Takeaway Awards ceremony in London on Sunday (8 October).

The Asian Restaurant & Takeaway Awards celebrate the UK’s best South Asian cuisine across a series of prestigious regional and national categories.

The winners were selected from thousands of nominations by a panel of ambassadors and judges.

Restaurants were awarded based on three key factors: quality of food, quality of service, and value for money, followed by the ARTA score, which includes food hygiene rating and reviews from websites like TripAdvisor and Google.

Restaurants that made it through the gruelling first phase were judged and invited to participate in a cook-off competition. The score included various factors including flavour, appearance, texture, hygiene, and aroma.

The Milnrow Balti was crowned best in the North West last year and holds a number of other accolades including; Greater Manchester Restaurant of the Year (National Curry Awards 2022), Best Indian Restaurant and Best Chef (Euro Asia Curry Awards 2021) and Best Restaurant (Curry Life Awards 2019).

The restaurant is also celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, having been established in 1998.

Owner of The Milnrow Balti, Mohammed Rahman said: "We are immensely proud of the hard work and dedication of our entire team, who consistently strive to bring customers the best curry experience. From our talented chefs who skillfully craft each dish with passion, to our attentive staff who ensure your dining experience is exceptional, every member of our team goes above and beyond to make a visit memorable.

"We are tremendously grateful for our customers' support, both in-person at our restaurant and virtually through your reviews, likes, and shares on social media. Your feedback has been invaluable on our journey to perfection, and it fuels our motivation to continuously innovate and deliver outstanding culinary experiences."

ARTA Founder Mohammed Munim said at the awards this year, "I would like to congratulate all of the winners and finalists of ARTA 2023 - the Pan Asian restaurants, takeaways, and chefs who are the pride of the UK's hospitality industry. As the first and foremost award ceremony to honour the finest of the UK's Asian restaurant and takeaway industry, we salute your resilience and fortitude as you continue to serve diners and customers across the UK in particularly challenging circumstances.

"The UK’s popular Asian restaurant industry, synonymous with taking operational and business challenges such as staff shortages and the Covid pandemic head on, now faces a new set of challenges - the current cost of living crisis. The cost of supplies, ingredients, and energy have risen significantly while customers are also facing tightened household budgets. In this tough situation, ARTA once again honours the UK’s best Asian restaurants and takeaways who continue to deliver the best in the restaurant and home dining in these tough circumstances. ARTA recognises this industry, which is the result and displays the successes of multiculturalism in the UK."
