Top safety accreditation for BES

Date published: 20 November 2023

Rochdale-based BES Ltd, the design and build company specialising in controlled environments, such as cleanrooms, laboratories, and manufacturing facilities, has been awarded accreditation from Alcumus SafeContractor for achieving excellence in health and safety in the workplace.

Alcumus SafeContractor is a leading accreditation scheme which recognises extremely rigorous standards in health and safety management among contractors. It is used by thousands of organisations in the UK including SMEs and FTSE 100 companies.

With over 20 years’ experience of delivering innovative and complex pharmaceutical, biotech, life science and healthcare facilities, for prestigious names such as Astra Zeneca, Pfizer, Bristol-Myer Squibb, Terumo Aortic and Recipharm etc, BES operates with multiple clients and in multiple locations.

The company has always placed considerable emphasis on health and safety and elimination and mitigation of risk. This includes designing out as many hazards as possible long before work begins on a construction site. Driven by this continuous improvement and the desire to instil uniform standards across its business, the achievement of this latest safety accreditation - SafeContractor - will enhance BES’s ability to keep not only its staff safe, but equally those with whom BES is working. It’s also a clear demonstration of its ongoing safety commitment to existing and potential clients, as well as having the added benefit of being recognised by national insurers.

Gemma Archibald, divisional CEO of Alcumus Supply Chain Division said: “Major organisations simply cannot afford to run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies in place. We encourage more companies to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way BES has done.”

Zeb Ahmed, CEO of BES Ltd said: “SafeContractor is a widely acknowledged health and safety accreditation and will play a vital role in ensuring we maintain the highest safety standards, as well as supporting our clients in meeting their compliance needs. It really does give our clients reassurance and peace of mind that we’re a safe and fully accredited company with whom to work. It also clearly demonstrates that we’re not only improving our standards but that we do so by being committed to sustainable and ethical practices.”
