The search continues for Greater Manchester’s Lord Sugars

Date published: 20 December 2010

Lord Alan Sugar's search may have reached a dramatic climax last night, with Stella English being crowned this year’s Apprentice, but Greater Manchester Chamber is still on the search for employers willing to follow his example of nurturing future talent.

The Chamber’s ongoing campaign focuses on making firms across Greater Manchester aware of the benefits an apprentice can bring to businesses of all sizes. Over the past few years the Chamber has helped over 3,000 apprentices enter the world of work, supported by a variety of employers from high-profile names such as the Bank of New York and Siemens to small to medium size firms that make up the lion’s share of its membership.

This year has continued to be challenging for local firms, but as Heather Green from Greater Manchester Chamber points out, companies can really benefit from taking on an apprentice even in the current climate. “In many ways an apprentice can be even more valuable to an employer during tough times,” says Heather. “They can offer a cost-effective way of investing in your firm’s future by ensuring you have the necessary skills. Employers have also told us that they can play an important part in ensuring that local businesses are equipped for dealing with the challenges ahead and are best-placed to profit in the recovery period.”

Ms Green continued: “What’s more unlike Lord Alan, there is no need for a screening process to find your apprentice. Our recruitment team are able to do most of the legwork for local firms screening candidates and helping firms find the perfect match for their business.”

Any employer keen to find out more information about taking on an apprentice or about the advice and help available should call 0161 233 2656 or email: recruitment@skills-solutions.org.uk for more information.
