New fancy dress shop opens

Rochdale’s newest business started trading on Saturday (15 June) as The Fancy Dress Shop Rochdale opened its doors for customers on Drake Street.

Formally opened by the Mayor Cllr Peter Rush, the shop offers hire and sales of costumes, wigs, accessories to the general public.

Over 40 people attended the opening and all visitors were encouraged to try and outfit on, leading to Darth Vader, Bo Peep, Noddy and Big Ears all being in attendance.

Proprietor Jennifer Kelly said: “We are very excited about the business and think it is the perfect time to be opening with the Metrolink opening and the regeneration work going on in the town centre.

"The shop has a traditional feel with a modern twist.

"We want people to come in and browse and to try on before hiring or buying.

"We cater for parties, masquerade balls, stag and hen nights and theatrical productions.”

The Fancy Dress Shop Rochdale has over 500 costumes in their heritage and classic hire ranges, along with costumes and accessories for sale.

“We have tried to cater for all tastes, but are always up for new challenge as new costumes and characters become popular. We have different sections in store too; TV and Film, Rock and Pop stars, Superheroes, Wild West, Military and Period to name a few,” added Jennifer.

“We also try and provide ideas for couples, trios and small groups.

"Pop in and see us next time you need something.”

Rochdale Online Director John Kay said at the opening: "The top of Drake Street will never be the same again. This Saturday saw the opening of a new shop which will help all party goers to live out their fantasies.

"Councillor Andy Kelly, a performer not only in the Council chamber but also at Rochdale Curtain Theatre, has started what could be a trend for Rochdale’s small shops by seizing an opportunity to open a niche outlet , in this case for fancy dress.

• 12.00pm Mondays, Wednesdays, Thurdays and Fridays
• 10.00am Saturday morning
• Late night opening on til 8pm on Thursday nights
