Fashion retailer Select opening new store in the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre

Date published: 01 July 2014

Women’s fashion retailer Select is opening a new store in the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre in Rochdale. This is the first store for the clothing chain in this area.

The new store, which is 2,800 square foot, will replace the current Internacionale store in the centre. The store is due to open at the end of this week and has been designed to optimise space providing the clothing chain with increased space to display more seasonal lines. Select specialises in translating catwalk trends into high street outfits at affordable prices.

Launched in the early 1980s, Select was bought by Turkish investor Cafer Mahiroglu in 2008 and has focused on becoming one of the high street’s most affordable fashion forward retailers. This strategy has been successful with 136 UK stores open and ambitious expansion plans in place to open 40 more stores by the end of 2014.

Select owner Cafer Mahiroglu commented on the new store opening: "We’re thrilled with the opening of the new Rochdale store; we feel it will be a welcomed addition to the centre."

The Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre Manager, Martin Ballard, said: "Securing a national brand such as Select is a great step forward for the centre and shows real intent from the asset management team and managing agents that the centre is driving forward once more. We hope to reveal further names in the coming months as the new Wheatsheaf will deliver the visitors more of what they want."
