Rothwells celebrate diamond birthday

Date published: 03 October 2014

Rothwells celebrated their diamond birthday on Friday 26 September at Rochdale Golf Club and celebrated with the Mayor of Rochdale Carol Wardle and MP Simon Danczuk as well as staff and invited guests.

Starting the night, Managing Director Chris Nuttall praised the customers and staff alike for their continued support. The average length of service at Rothwells is now 13 and a half years with current General Manager Sylvia Marron about to hit 40 years.

The company, engineers merchants and builder’s ironmongers, has been around since 1954 and have branches in Rochdale, Nelson, Bury and Todmorden. They supply practically every type of tool or consumable that an engineer or builder may use.

In 1954, Rothwells was just one branch in Rochdale and now they are operating in three extra locations. This year they have joined the Growth Accelerator Scheme, which is an ambitious sales programme and have taken on their first apprentice in 20 years.

Chris puts the company’s success down to hard work and dedication in always trying to exceed their customer’s expectations.

Over the years, as well as their core engineering suppliers, the company has also supplied bee keeper’s suits, daffodil bulbs, a fridge, 7,500 rain ponchos for the commonwealth games, a school bell and even some dog seizers for local dog warders.

Mayor Wardle spoke about the longevity of Rothwells, how they benefit the local economy and how important it is to support local business as a whole.

Simon Danczuk spoke about the role of local businesses in the wider economy and how they contribute massively as a collective in Britain’s Gross Domestic Product, he added: “Without local businesses like Rothwells, we could not survive.”

Entertainment was provided by Jon Grogan, a guitarist and vocalist.

Chris added: “We had a great night. Long let it continue.”
