Simon Danczuk backs local manufacturing

Date published: 07 September 2015

Simon Danczuk wants to put the gears in motion and help a local firm build on more than a century of manufacturing tradition.

Rochdale's MP Simon Danczuk visited the Renold Gears factory in Station Road, Milnrow to learn more about the business and offer his support as the company bids for lucrative international contracts.

Mr Danczuk met with Managing Director Chris Riley and spoke with some of the 160 members of staff at the facility.

The British owned business has employed engineers in the Lancashire and Greater Manchester area for more than 130 years.

Mr Danczuk heard about the firm’s strategic plan which includes major investment in machinery and facilities and a long term commitment to Rochdale.

Renold make everything from the gearboxes used in the escalators on the London Underground to chain mechanisms for rollercoasters and theme park rides in Florida.

Mr Danczuk said: “The manufacturing sector is strong in Rochdale and I want to see it continue to grow and improve.

“Firms like Renold Gears, whose highly skilled staff have hundreds of years of experience between them, have a big part to play in that.

“It’s great to see that products made here in Rochdale by a British owned business are being used in the capital and across the world. I want to see even more of that.

“That means competing both domestically and internationally to win the big contracts that will bring millions of pounds into the Rochdale economy.

“I will be doing what I can both here and in Parliament to promote Renold and other local manufacturers making world class products on our doorstep.”
