Tribute to former Man of Rochdale David Grime

Date published: 01 February 2014

The friends of David Grime would like to pay tribute to him after he died in the early hours of Thursday morning (Thursday 29 January).

David, who was known for raising thousands of pounds for charity, suffered a stroke in
early December.

Close fiend of David's, Keith Moore said: "He was disabled and he struggled to walk sometimes but that never stopped him doing his charity work and looking after other people. He raised over £50,000 for charity over the years."

David was chosen as Rochdale's Man of the Year in 2004 and also went on to receive a gold award from Springhill Hospice for his endless charity work. As well as local charity work, David raised funds for other charities including Francis House in Manchester.

Keith added: "He used to put on things like concerts to raise the money and he always had the support of the people in Milnrow."

David was also responsible for setting up the 'Wagon Loonies'. This was his group of friends who drank in the same pub as him who helped him with his charity efforts. "He was responsible for setting everything up and we would support him in any way we could," said Keith.

David was quite a character in Milnrow and was even responsible for officially opening
the Milnrow Tesco store.

Details of David's funeral are currently unknown but Keith and David's close friends would like to thank people for supporting David over the years.

He said: "We just want to say a big thank you to the people of Milnrow for the support that they showed to David over the years. We also want to pay our condolences to his family at this time. We know he is going to be missed."
