Ken Lambert dies aged 84

Date published: 20 January 2016

Ken Lambert, a much-loved life member of Littleborough Cricket Club, has died, aged 84. Ken was an integral part of the Littleborough community, and spent years as a club committee member, where he was dedicated to sharing his knowledge about the history of cricket.

Ken, who before retirement worked as a General Manager at Courtaulds Ltd, spent his whole life living in the area, and was especially passionate about Littleborough.

The club’s secretary Glenn Kershaw said: “I had the pleasure of knowing Ken ever since I became involved with the club over 25 years ago, he was an avid and passionate supporter of Littleborough cricket at all levels and was a very popular character, never short of a story, who was very much respected.

“Although ill health had limited his visits to the club in recent times, Ken will be very deeply and fondly missed, a true gentleman and one of the ‘old guard’."

Stuart Jackson, a trustee of the club, said: “He was an absolutely cracking chap, with a really dry sense of humour. Everybody loved having him around.

“The other thing is, he was the number one go-to man for any local information, and he knew everything about Littleborough and about the cricket club itself, he had such a passion about him.

“Ken was related to me distantly, but I always called him Uncle Ken because it’s just what he was to me. He was a splendid guy and we are all going to miss him dearly.”
