Doncaster 40 - 10 Rochdale Hornets

Doncaster set the pace right from the off against Hornets and having taken the lead never really looked troubled by a Hornets side that has now lost three in a row.

Early pressure from Doncaster with good build up play by Scott and Cooke set Kesik up for the first score of the game. Scott added the extras.

Cooke superbly intercepted a Hornets pass and Leaf dived over. Scott again successful with the conversion.

Hornets struggling to contend with Doncaster but dug deep and their best period of the first half ended with Paul Crook kicking a sixth tackle bomb which Shaun Robinson collected to score right in front of the posts. Crook had an easy task to add the two.

No sooner had Hornets got back into the game than poor discipline cost them dear, a silly penalty gave Doncaster field positionand good build up play down the right left Castle to barge over from close range. Scott was successful with the kick to restore Doncaster's 12 point lead.

Dons player/coach Paul Cooke set up the last try of the half to put Tom Hodson in to go over in the corner. Scott's kick was wide.

The second half sparked into life when a good break from Wilkinson and onto Scott and then Cooke, who fed Hodson out on the wing for him to score his second try of the game. Scott missed the kick from out wide.

Loose passing from Hornets ended any doubt as to the outcome of the game when they gifted Wilkinson the ball and he sprinted almost a good 90 metres to touch down. Scott skewed his kick well wide.

With the game effectively over, it was a matter of how respectable Hornets could keep the score but Doncaster were in the mood for more and added to their tally when Spaven scurried over from close range. Scott hit the mark with his kick.

Hornets crossed the line next but the assistant ruled knock-on and the referee chalked off the try. However, James Dandy finally gave Hornets supporters something to cheer in the second half went he crossed the line and this time the try stood. Crook missed the conversion.

With minutes left to play, Hornets gifted Doncaster another try when Dave Scott intercepted and set off on a 100 metre sprint to score the final try of the game. Hodson took over the kicking duties from Scott but hit the upright with his attempt.
