Hornets summer training camp

Date published: 24 July 2014

Moving up a division is a steep learning curve for the biggest of clubs but for Rochdale Hornets it's provided a unique opportunity to look at how they generate much needed revenue after play has stopped.

Working together with a new sponsor has given them the funds to work on projects and activities that could boost the coffers in a major new way. Safeguard Group of Oldham sponsor the club's community work and have joined forces with Hornets for a sports and healthy lifestyle programme that is being trialled this summer as Eat Sleep League Repeat offering practical rugby league sessions as well as tips on healthy eating and exercise.

Its success with youngsters has prompted the partnership to develop a much bigger project for schools and organisations working with young people to run outside the official rugby league season.

Ben Ingham Education and Community Lead for Safeguard Group said: “We're a proactive sponsor and for us getting involved and being at events and activities is what sponsorship looks like. We're rolling out an exciting new education and community programme this autumn and Rochdale Hornets will play a big part in that. This summer's training camps are just a taster of what we can do together. It's also a new way of sustaining the club's income and generating potential new audiences in the run up to season 2015."

Chief Executive of Rochdale Hornets Ryan Bradley said: “Community work has always been at the heart of everything we do as a club. We have some very exciting plans ahead and we need businesses such as Safeguard to buy into what we do and support us. Being able to get coaching from a Rugby League player who has played in a World Cup is a fantastic opportunity for an up and coming player and we thank Safeguard for providing the funding and support to put the camps on for the youngsters of Rochdale."

The training camps cost just £3 per day, for more details please contact the club:
