‘Rochdale Rocks’

Date published: 09 November 2015

‘Rochdale Rocks’, a new initiative aimed at coaching and mentoring young musicians and providing performance opportunities for local secondary school students, is being launched by Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation.

The launch will take place at Matthew Moss High School at 4:00pm, Tuesday 10 November.

The event will last for around 45 minutes and feature a full explanation of the programme, as well as performances from some of the first students to enrol on the programme.

Funded by the Arts Council, and in conjunction with Curious Minds and Rugby League Cares, ‘Rochdale Rocks’ will consist of 12 sessions of coaching and mentoring delivered by musician Nigel Pickering.

A ‘Battle of the Bands’ concert will also be held from which the best acts will be chosen to perform at Spotland Stadium.

Niel Wood, Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation, said: “Thanks to generous funding from the Arts Council we are glad to be able to deliver a programme that will encourage Rochdale’s young people to develop their talents and express themselves creatively.”

Nigel Pickering said: “It is fantastic to be able to work with young musicians to give them the opportunity to perfect their performance and to get the best available sound for the audience. I am really looking forward to seeing, hearing and working with some great local talent.”

Katie Irwin, Rugby League Cares, said: “We are very excited to see and hear what ‘Rochdale Rocks’ will produce. The idea is a great way to encourage young people to be creative and have a bit of fun in the process.”
