Internship Graduation Ceremony

The Internship Graduation Ceremony took place last week giving internees, their families, Post 16 staff, members of the business community and governors the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the youngsters who are graduating following their programme.

It is always a very special occasion with the presentation of awards and certificates being made by Mr Mark Widdup, Director of Neighbourhoods at the Local Authority. It also gives the school the opportunity to thank those companies and the NHS who support the programme in such a wonderful manner.

Farewell to Miss Brophy

The end of the term sees the retirement of Miss Brophy from her role as deputy headteacher Miss Brophy has been an instrumental figure in the development of Redwood since she joined the school in 2008 and she has been responsible for the introduction of a huge number of initiatives across the school and curriculum.

A special assembly will take place to mark her retirement and on behalf of everybody associated with Redwood, pupils, staff and governors, I would like to express our appreciation for Miss Brophy’s dedication and hard work to ensure we always try to provide the best possible education for our youngsters.

We all wish Miss Brophy a long and healthy retirements as she takes up the next part of life’s journey. Many thanks, Miss Brophy.

Summer club programme

A reminder for those parents/carers who have been allocated places on the summer club programme that the dates are Monday to Thursday 1 to 4 August, 8 to 11 August and 15 to 18 August.

September planning

Following the parents’ evenings this week, discussions will have taken place with regard to the classes and provision for September. If you are not sure on these issues, I would ask that you make a note in the home school planner and issues will be followed up by the class teacher.

I will circulate more information in the new term on the proposed building programme which is due to start in September. I am attending a series of planning meetings during the school break to ensure all aspects of the planning are in hand ready for the new term.

Parent View

Thank you to parents/carers for finding the time at the parents’ evening sessions to complete our Parent View survey; an important aspect of the developments we wish to make to maintain our improvements. On the whole, feedback was very positive and will be displayed on our website in due course. We will also be focusing on how to improve individual particular issues.
For those parents who were unable to meet with one teacher due to an unforeseen illness, we will be asking you to submit questions. The teacher concerned will reply with the appropriate information.

Finally thank you.

As we come to the end of the school year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents and carers for your continued support throughout the year and I hope that you enjoy a relaxing summer break when it arrives.

KS4

Year 11 students took part in a residential to The Burrs. They all had an absolutely fabulous time. Activities included archery, rock climbing, kayaking and raft building. All the students were brilliant and an absolute asset to the school.

SSC went to Knowsley Safari Park for their end of year trip, where they enjoyed looking at the animals.

We hope everyone has a brilliant summer holiday and please make sure you all stay safe.

KS3

Tram Travel
A group of students ventured out in the rain to take the tram from Rochdale to Oldham where they were met by our minibus. The children had a lovely time and all behaved perfectly.

Awards

Thank you to parents and carers who came to support the young people at the awards ceremony at Gracie Fields. The young people did themselves proud and it was a great event to celebrate all achievements.

Parents Evening– A big thank you to all the parents/carers who attended parents evening to celebrate our young people’s success.

KS5

Had a great time during Activities week. We had 3 trips out to Moorland Home where students had access to some amazing equipment. There was also a ‘Four Seasons in one Day’ day, with summer camping, spring showers, autumn breezes and winter frost, as well as trips out to collect natural resources for a collage.

Congratulations to Jordan, Jolene, Bradley and Ben on completing their work experience. They have shown their employers how mature and responsible our students can be and they have done well in representing our school.

Our students of the fortnight are Jordan, Alex, Aisha and Maithe as most improved.

Well done to Shanza, Raymond and the 6th form table cricket team for their awards.
