Music night at Mark Twain raised £2,400 for Hospice

A music night at the Mark Twain has raised £2,400 for Springhill Hospice in what is set to become an annual event.

Regulars turned out for a ‘Night of Entertainment’ featuring ex footballer turned acoustic vocalist Daniel East, topped off with karaoke.

Doris Ellison, Mark Twain landlady, who organised the evening in memory of her brother Paul, said: “We wanted to do something to say thank you to the Hospice who nursed my brother at home and gave him, and the family, such wonderful care and support.

"Everyone has said we should do it again and I am happy to say that this will now be an annual event.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for getting behind it and for helping us to raise such a brilliant sum. The raffle alone made over £600.

"I want to thank everyone too at Northern Joinery donating all the prizes and using their fantastic skills to make a beautiful container to display them in.”

The wooden, crafted container has now also been donated to the Hospice and was handed over to the Chief Executive Julie Halliwell by Benjamin Aughey, from the Whitworth based staircase manufacturer, who said: “We were all really pleased to support Doris and the family and we’re glad to have been of help. It is good to think that our container will go on to be of use to the Hospice.”

Hospice CEO, Julie Halliwell said, “I am so grateful to Doris, her family, and everyone who has supported her. I never fail to be inspired by the fundraising efforts of our local community. We think of it as the people’s hospice because it is only thanks to the wonderful support that we receive that we can continue with our work.”
