Dobir Miah praises new cemetery at Denehurst Park

Date published: 20 July 2016

The new cemetery at Denehurst Park has received special praise for its Muslim section by Dobir Miah, Chief Officer of Rochdale Council of Mosques (RCM).

Mr Miah has worked closely with Rochdale Borough Council over the past 15 months to develop the facilities at the new site and is very pleased with the results.

He said: “We are very grateful to the local authority and the staff at the cemetery for providing everything we wanted, especially around such a sensitive topic.”

The old Rochdale Cemetery has only four spaces left for the Muslim community, whereas the new one will provide enough space for all communities for 20-25 years. The new location also offers CCTV to ensure the 2,000 grave site is respected and maintained.

Mr Miah added: “It’s important that the community has somewhere nice to lay their dead with dignity.

“It looks and feels really peaceful.”

Further information about the building of the new cemetery and facilities, rules and regulations, and registering deaths will be made available at every mosque.
