Cyclists complete epic 900 mile charity fundraiser

Date published: 21 July 2016

Heywood man Lee Tennant, along  with two friends, completed the 900 mile challenge from John O’ Groats to Lands’ End, in memory of Donna McLaughlin who lost her battle with cancer last year.

Donna's death inspired the cycling trio to get together and make much needed funds for Bolton Hospice – so far totalling at £2,000 with online and offline donations.

The cyclists completed the epic journey on Sunday 10 July.

Lee said: “It was difficult, we had to get up to about 100 miles a day which is made harder by the steep hills and rough trails, but I can’t say it wasn’t also a lot of fun. I for one really enjoyed the challenge.

“Scotland was really beautiful but tough with all the gradual rolling hills, it’s just up and down all the time. We kept our energy levels up with energy bars, eating carbs such as pasta dishes at night and things like that. We certainly slept well after so much exercise every day.”

He added: “It was all for a very good cause and I love to do things for charity. I’m hoping to get off the bike and do a marathon next year – a totally different sort of challenge so we’ll see how that goes.

“Thank you to everyone who donated to us. It made it all worthwhile.”
