John Barton gets set for 10k in memory of Sarah Taylor

Date published: 25 July 2016

Rochdale man John Barton is getting set for a 10k run in memory of his friend, Sarah Taylor, who died of cervical cancer.

John, a director at BC Real Estate in the town centre, says he is taking on the challenge to raise funds for the Bury Hospice after Sarah lost her battle with cancer earlier this year.

The Bury 10k run will take place on 18 September, and John has been training hard for the event. At the time of publication, he had already raised over £300 for the charity.

John said: “Sarah was only 28-years-old and had a lot going for her.

“I am running this because I knew Sarah and I am particularly good friends with her cousin and her brother both of whom I went to school with and have grown up with from being about three of four-years-old.

“Just before she passed away, Sarah was cared for by Bury Hospice and they did a fantastic job of giving her and her family the support she needed at obviously a very difficult time.

“Obviously Sarah passing away, particularly at such a young age, has been devastating to all her family and friends but it is great to see so many of her friends get behind her/her family and participate in other charitable events such as Pretty Muddy, Zumba fundraisers and other charity fundraisers to help raise money for the hospice.

“Sarah's mum, Lorraine, has been a real advocate over the past few months trying to help raise awareness of cervical cancer and Sarah would be very proud of her mum in what she has done and what she continues to do.

“I hope to raise as much money as possible so Bury Hospice can continue to offer their much needed services and would appreciate if you would consider donating to this great cause.”
