Excitement at Rochdale Sixth Form A-Level results day

Date published: 18 August 2016

Screams of excitement could be heard from the hallways at Rochdale Sixth Form this morning (18 August) as students opened their A-level results papers and found out whether or not they’d got their place at university.

Rosie Rigby was celebrating her entry into Oxford University after getting four As and an A* in Politics, Chemistry, English Literature, French, German and an EPQ (Extended Project Qualification).

Smiling with her results papers in hand, she said: “I went down to Oxford for a week to see the campus and get through all the interviews, it’s amazing that it’s becoming a reality now, I can’t wait.

“I would like a career based in languages because I think it’s one of my strengths, though I studied politics and chemistry as well so we’ll see.”

Rebecca Connolly, daughter of Wendy, the owner of Wendy Lane Vets, says her mum has inspired her to work with animals, and she is looking forward to studying Veterinary Medicine at Liverpool vet school at Liverpool University.

Rebecca said: “My mum has always been in this line of work and I grew up around animals. There was a time when I wanted to be a ballet dancer but it was time to choose something a bit more academic. I’m really happy with my results, I got an A*, and A and a B which gets me into what I want to do.”

Adeel Indrees studied chemistry, biology and maths, with two A* grades and an A. He said: “I’m so happy. I’m looking forward to going to Manchester University to study chemical engineering, it’s always been interesting for me, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Robyn Wallis, an enthusiastic clog dancer, is dancing her way to success with high grades in maths, chemistry and physics. She said: “I got an A in maths and two Bs in Chemistry and Physics. I’ve been dancing since the age of 12 but I don’t think that is my career choice, I’m looking forward to university.”

Brad Tweedale said: “I really would like to be a neurologist, so I worked towards getting my Biology, Maths and an EPQ. I’m going to study at the Hull-York Medical School next, I’m really excited.”
