Mental Health Faith Champions Workshops

Date published: 26 August 2016

BME Health and Wellbeing has held a Mental Health Faith Champions Workshops at Wardleworth Community Centre, Rochdale.

Shahid Mohammed, founder of BME Health & Wellbeing, said: “There is still huge stigma attached to mental health conditions and an individual’s faith can directly affect how they seek help and support.

"These workshops provided an opportunity for faith leaders and the NHS to get a clearer understanding on what the issues are, directly from service users, so that their service provision is more inclusive and reflective.”

Councillor Mohammed Zaman, who attended the workshop, added: “The workshops are a much needed positive step for everyone to come together from all areas, including service users and providers. Hopefully the NHS staff are better informed of the issues that arose in Rochdale and Oldham. I agree that we need to have more of these events and training across all areas to give BAME, faith groups and the NHS the opportunities to get involved in discussing mental health and help to shape and improve mental health services.”
