Girlguiding members from Rochdale and Heywood got together in Liverpool to celebrate 100 years of The Senior Section, at an event called LiveItUp.

32nd Rochdale Rangers from Shawclough and Heywood Senior Section joined over 400 young women from across the North West at the all-day event which focused on social action and celebration.

The young women took part in a number of different projects in and around Liverpool, from hosting activity days, to property maintenance and conservation projects, making a real positive change to the local community.

32nd Rochdale Rangers worked with The National Trust Rangers at Formby restoring the coastal footpaths.

Heywood Senior Section worked with Person Shaped Support, on their Dutch farm, helping harvest crops and prepare the beds for replanting, painting the garden furniture, and planting bulbs.

At the end of the day, the members celebrated at the Camp and Furnace entertainment venue, enjoying live music, local bands and street food.

Jeska Kelly, aged 15, from Rochdale said: “I had a great time at LiveItUp. My favourite part was the party, but it was also great working on the social action project, it was really rewarding.”

Jordan Fishburn, aged 16, from Heywood said: “The whole day was fantastic. From helping to maintain a wonderful garden, all the way to insanity beach at night.”

Julie Bell, Region Chief Commissioner, said: “LiveItUp has been a truly inspirational, action-packed and fun-filled day.

"Social action has been at the heart of Girlguiding for the last 100 years, so this is a really great way to celebrate our centenary.”
