Hundreds turn out for Hopwood Winter Market

Date published: 05 December 2016

Over £2,400 was raised for the Friends of Hopwood Park’s to convert the derelict bus shelter into a coffee hub as hundreds turned out for "the most successful Winter Market yet", on Saturday 3 December.

Mayor Ray Dutton and Mayoress Elaine Dutton opened the event, which also saw attendance from MP Liz McInnes and Councillors Carol Wardle and Linda Robinson. Frozen’s Olaf and Father Christmas could also be seen at the market.

Chairwoman of the Friends, Sandra Trickett, said: "It was a fantastic, successful day with hundreds enjoying what has now become a popular annual event for Hopwood. I would like to thank everyone who made it possible, and in particular, the hard-working volunteers of the Friends of Hopwood Park."

Liz McInnes MP said: "It was a real pleasure to attend the fantastic winter market and it was great to see it so busy.

"Delicious food and drink, plenty of entertainment and a visit from Father Christmas himself all contributed to the wonderful atmosphere, and the Friends of Hopwood Park and all other volunteers deserve huge credit for helping to organise such a successful event."

Stalls included artisan chocolates from Mr Bee & Mr Bat, Betty’s Taylormade, Nana Cooper’s Kitchen, Kat’s Heywood in Bloom, Home Made With Love and more.

Entertainment and activities such as face painting, mini-golf and paintball were available over the afternoon as music filled the air courtesy of Hopwood Community Primary School Choir, Middleton Youth Brass Band and Roch Valley Hospital Radio Road Show.

A variety of hot food and drink, including mulled wine and a beer tent, was on offer throughout the day.

1st Heywood St John’s also leant the use of their facilities to provide power and tables for the event.
