Students lead the line at Hornets kit launch

Date published: 20 December 2016

Media Production students from Hopwood Hall College have been working in partnership with Rochdale Hornets RLFC in launch of the club's new kit for the 2017 season.

The students have been developing promo material for the club, using their creative media skills to develop a 'casual and accessible' launch campaign.

Camera operaters, media designers and editing technitions all worked together to develop launch videos and advertisments using superimposition techniques.

Adopting methods and technology employed by the television and film industry, the students impressed the club with the quality and maturity of their content development.

Rochdale Hornets Executive Community Director, Niel Wood, spoke of his experience with the students: “Working with the staff and students at Hopwood Hall is a fantastic experience. The level of professionalism and commitment shown is exemplary and the output of the highest quality.

"We are very fortunate to be able to work with these young people and they will become brilliant assets for employers in the future.

"We at Rochdale Hornets are really proud of our association with the college and we hope that they are equally as proud to be working with the oldest professional sports club in the town.”

Similarly students were equally impressed with the willingness of the club to trust the students' skills, as well as the technological experience gained from their work with one of the oldest rugby clubs in the world.

Daniel Wiseman, one of the more experienced students working on the project, said: " I learned a lot more about how to use different cameras, I have never used these types of cameras and it's valuable experience gained for my future career.

"Observing the first years gave me the confidence to be able to use them in future projects too, there is a lot of potential talent on our course."

Hornets begin their new season on the 15 January against Salford Red Devils.
