Lucca Minopoli plants new tree at Crompton House

Date published: 19 January 2017

Lucca Minopoli, from Smithy Bridge, has planted a new tree in the grounds of Crompton House school grounds after a gale blew a previous tree down.

Year eight pupil Lucca, who is a volunteer for 10,000 Trees, planted the oak sapling, which has been named ‘Gary’, in a special ceremony organised by the school with the Headmaster, the Head of Year and the Year Eight group.

The Year Eight student said: “When the old tree blew down in the gale, I felt it was the right thing to do planting another because of the importance of trees to wildlife.

“The tree is only small at the moment but one day it will be massive and live for hundreds of years. I'd like to visit it when I'm old and see how it's getting on.”

The sapling was named by the students, who took turns to lay the soil during the ceremony.

‘Gary’ was brought to the school by Lucca’s grandad Richard Simpson, who is also a volunteer for 10,000 Trees. The oak sapling was grown in a pot from an acorn by Richard’s friend, Terry.
