Brimrod Primary School learn about the life and times of Roald Dahl

Date published: 24 April 2017

Pupils at Brimrod Primary School learnt about the fascinating life and times of Roald Dahl and his array of interesting fictional characters when they experienced an exciting Roald Dahl themed Play in a Day® by Konflux Theatre in Education.

Aimed at Key Stage 2 pupils, children from Brimrod Primary school met Sophie, Roald Dahl’s granddaughter whom he based one of his characters on in his book 'The BFG'.

The children went on a journey with Sophie, who listened to her grandfather tell the fascinating story of The BFG. Children learnt that looks can be deceiving and you should never judge a book by its cover.

Messages and morals under-pinning some of Dahl's well known stories were explored.

Children worked together as a team of actors to create a fun, informative and action-packed 15-minute performance which contained insightful messages from some of Dahl’s favourite stories including George’s Marvellous Medicine, James and the Giant Peach and Fantastic Mr Fox.

During the workshop, children discovered that it is okay to be different and how reading can transport you to exciting and imaginary lands which can bring great satisfaction.

These key messages about believing in yourself and having confidence in your own abilities were reiterated throughout the day.

Props, costumes and music were used to further engage children and bring the session to life.

At the close of the performance the children shared with the audience some key facts about Roald Dahl such as how during his career he wrote over forty novels and plays for children and adults and how ten percent of all Roald Dahl income goes to charity, continuing his legacy in the future.

2016 marked 100 years since the birth of Roald Dahl - the world’s number one storyteller.
