Forever-Strong Fitness celebrate first birthday anniversary

Date published: 03 May 2017

Forever-Strong Fitness is celebrating its first birthday this May, after World Kettlebell Champion Gary Rothwell set up the gym on Woodbine Street East a year ago.

In 2010, as a then British Army soldier, Gary decided to make a change with his health and fitness. Overweight with no confidence in his appearance and struggling to keep pace with Army life, he decided to take control of his lifestyle and ‘get in shape’.

Tired of fad diet failure and always looking for the next ‘quick fix’, Gary decided to knuckle down, study what actually works for long term health and weight loss success and work hard at it.

After many setbacks, frustrations and the odd success, he finally hit upon a formula that works whilst allowing people to go out and socialise and not feel as though they are always on a diet.

It was at this point that Gary decided that when he left the Army, this is what he wanted to do to help as many other people as possible finally break the frustration of failed fat loss attempts and educate people on what it actually takes to make a positive change to their lifestyle and live a healthy life for themselves and their families.

In May 2016, that dream came true in the form of Forever-Strong Fitness and Performance in Rochdale, when Gary opened up his own gym on Woodbine Street East within Moss Mill Industrial Estate.

The aim of the gym is simple; to help people get leaner, fitter, stronger, more confident and more comfortable in their own skin: forever.

The success achieved by the gym’s members has also inspired Gary to his own physical highs. In October, he became a Double Kettlebell World Champion, followed in November by the British Championships and in February 2017 by the English title and a UK record.

Being a community spirit who are battling with their own challenges, the gym decided to give something back to the community in December. They ran a campaign to help Feeding Rochdale Homeless, raising over £1400 plus large quantities of food and warm clothing during the cold winter.

Throughout 2017, the gym members are planning to go much further than this and as such are running a number of physical activities in aid of Melanoma UK and Springhill Hospice.

These activities include anything from obstacle course races to 10 km road runs to hosting charity boot camps on 20 May called ‘Kettlemania’, which is open to the public.
