Hopwood Primary ‘United in Song’ at Broadfield Park

Date published: 25 May 2017

Year 6 children from Hopwood Primary School enjoyed representing Rochdale by participating in the Greater Manchester Singing Challenge, ‘United in Song’, singing at Broadfield Park on Tuesday (23 May).

This year’s Singing Challenge celebrated parks and open spaces, championing the benefits they can bring for health, recreation and community spirit.

Sarah Harland, Deputy Headteacher, Hopwood C P School said: “Once again, Out of the Ark’s very own Mary Green and Julie Stanley wrote the fantastic new song, Go To The Park which encourages children to think about all the different fun activities they can do there, as well as reminding them of the changing seasons and of the wildlife they may see there.

“Our children performed the song at exactly 2.15pm to coincide with other schools' performances across the HUB.

“Our performance on the bandstand was enjoyed by family and friends, as well as visitors to the park. Two local police officers even stopped to listen whilst on patrol around the park.

“The children were tutored for this event by Rochdale Music Service's singing specialist, Emily Matthews, and have been practising hard as the song divided into three parts towards the end.

“We are proud of the children's achievement and thank everyone for their support.”
