Wardle Academy and Oulder Hill come second and third in maths challenge

Date published: 19 April 2018

Year 10 pupils from Oulder Hill Community School, Beech House School, Hollingworth Academy, Middleton Technology School, Wardle Academy, Siddal Moor, Matthew Moss High School, and Kingsway Park High School along with pupils from other regional schools all took part in the Bury College Maths Challenge 2018 hosted at the Bury College campus.

Bury Grammar School Girls secured first place, Wardle Academy second place and Oulder Hill third place.

Four pupils from each school went head-to-head in a series of rounds which tested their mathematical knowledge.

Pupils were challenged to a session of warm up questions, before progressing to a quick-fire round, followed by a countdown round based on the hit television programme.

The third stage invited students to get up on their feet and move around whilst answering mathematical calculations.

The day finished with a team challenge where any wrong answer cost the team marks.

All questions were based on GCSE Maths material but were written to challenge and stretch the most able students.
